Alcohol, Medication and Feeling Unwell 酒精、藥物與身體不適
Drivers should get enough rest and keep healthy habits, and in particular must not drink alcohol or take medication before driving. A small amount is not a safe amount: even a little deepens fatigue and clearly worsens driving ability.
Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is a criminal offence, so a driver should never take a chance on it.
A driver who feels unwell should see a doctor as early as possible rather than put it off. If medication is prescribed, the driver should ask the doctor whether it has side effects that might affect driving.
Feeling Tired While Driving 駕駛時感到疲倦
A driver who feels tired on the road can open a window for fresh air or turn the air conditioning temperature down to help stay alert. Note the direction: the temperature is turned down, not up.
If conditions permit, the driver should find a suitable parking spot, pull over and rest. The driver must never stop on a highway or a road with fast-moving traffic, even when tired.
Work Stress and Mental Well-being 工作壓力與精神健康
Long periods of driving can cause work stress, mental tension and other health problems, so drivers need to take active steps to relieve stress.
In off-hours, drivers can take up healthy leisure activities and physical exercise and make sure they get enough sleep. They should also keep a positive mindset and build good, supportive relationships with family, friends and colleagues.
Driving Posture and Preventing Muscle Strain 駕駛坐姿與預防筋肌勞損
Drivers should pay attention to posture: adjust the seat, steering wheel and rear-view mirrors properly, and make full use of the seat backrest for support.
Sitting for a long time keeps pressure on the same parts of the body, so a driver should shift seating position from time to time to move the pressure points.
Drivers should also take suitable short breaks and do stretching exercises, which help blood circulation and prevent muscle strain.
