Employer Sponsored Schemes 僱主營辦計劃
Membership follows the employment relationship: only relevant employees of one employer and its associated companies can join. Working for another company in the same industry does not, by itself, give an employee access.
The restricted membership limits how widely operating costs can be shared. A large number of relevant employees is therefore needed for the scheme to be cost effective, which explains why large companies are the likely sponsors. Master Trust Schemes 集成信託計劃
A Master Trust Scheme serves a wider membership than the workforce of one employer. It can admit relevant employees of different employers, self-employed persons, former self-employed persons and people planning to open tax deductible voluntary contributions (TVC) accounts.
It can also receive transferred benefits. People wishing to transfer their benefits from another MPF scheme, an ORSO exempted scheme or an ORSO registered scheme are within its membership scope.
Contributions from different employers are brought together for administration and investment. Handling them on a larger scale improves efficiency through economies of scale. Industry Schemes 行業計劃
The two designated industries are currently catering and construction. Industry Schemes address their high labour mobility and are specially designed for relevant employees engaged on a day-to-day basis or for a fixed period of less than 60 days; exactly 60 days does not meet the latter description.
Employers in the designated industries can choose whether to use an Industry Scheme. They may choose another suitable MPF scheme, such as a Master Trust Scheme; operating in a designated industry does not make Industry Scheme participation compulsory.
A casual employee who belongs to an Industry Scheme need not change schemes when changing jobs if both the previous and new employers participate in that same Industry Scheme. Participation in the same scheme matters, rather than merely working in the same industry. This reduces benefit transfers and their administrative costs.
