Linked Policy Illustration Documents 相連保單退保說明文件
Since January 1997, authorised insurers have had to provide an illustration document in addition to the principal brochure. The insurer must prepare one for each proposed investment by each prospective customer, for the customer to review and sign before signing the application form. Relevant requirements appear in the SFC’s Code on Investment-Linked Assurance Schemes and Appendix I to the IA’s Guideline on Benefit Illustrations for Long Term Insurance Policies (GL28).
The document must show projected surrender values at the end of each of the first five policy years, then every fifth year until maturity. Calculations must deduct all relevant charges and exclude non-guaranteed returns such as discretionary bonuses, dividends and reimbursements of charges. Customers should therefore examine the amounts receivable after charges, rather than considering assumed investment growth alone.
The minimum requirements include using at least two return assumptions. From 1 January 2015, projected surrender values and death benefits must follow one of two templates: Version 1 uses annual rates of 0%, 3%, 6% and 9%; Version 2 uses 0%, 3% and 6%. Both retain the 0% assumed net annual return scenario; the other rates are caps for the corresponding scenarios, and lower rates may be used. The assumptions are illustrative, neither guaranteed nor based on past performance, and actual returns may differ. [IA GL28, Appendix I](https://www.ia.org.hk/en/legislative_framework/files/GL28.pdf)
The document explains how charges affect surrender values and does not change the policy terms. Before the customer’s signature, it must clearly warn that customers should invest only if they intend to pay premiums throughout their chosen payment term, and that early termination may cause significant loss. It must also record their confirmation that they have read and understood the illustration and received the principal brochure. Customisation to add information requires SFC approval; additions must be relevant and valuable to customers, without misleading them or detracting from the minimum disclosures.
